Goliath Packaging Systems - 15 years, and counting..!

A joyous milestone occasion was celebrated in Nenagh recently as local company Goliath Packaging Systems celebrated its 15th anniversary.

Operating in Nenagh since 2007, Goliath supplies, installs and provides after-sales services for a comprehensive range of Automation Systems (incorporating End of Line Packaging Machinery, Materials Handling and Industrial Washing Equipment) to the Irish manufacturing sector. With experience gained through many years of successful project delivery, the expertise of its international partners and the skills of its trained staff, Goliath is perfectly positioned to continue to meet the demands of its growing customer base.

With strong sales performance in 2021 following a return to normality after Covid-19, Goliath is focused on the delivery of complex automated packaging solutions on time and within budget across all industry sectors.

“The rebound in activity is very pleasing,” states Managing Director George O’Leary,“particularly as it represents, not only repeat orders from our existing customer base, but also valued new business from the dairy, food/beverage and pharmaceutical sectors in particular.”

The past 12 months has seen business secured with companies operating in all of the above sectors, with projects delivered for the following select customers (amongst others):

“It’s hard to believe we’re 15 years in business,” Mr O’Leary says, reckoning that Goliath has seen a working lifetime of challenges in that period. “Between the 2008-10 recession, Brexit, a global pandemic and the war in Ukraine (causing supply chain issues), I think that we’ve seen it all. However, I’m hopeful that the next 15 years will be smoother sailing.

“As the saying goes, ‘What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger’. I’m happy that the business is lean, strong and perfectly positioned to benefit from the ‘desire to automate’ that I see in the marketplace at present.”

With this in mind, Goliath held a successful Open Day at its Well Road premises on Friday, June 10, where it showcased its new range of AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles…i.e., driverless fork trucks) to a very receptive audience, including Tipperary TD Jackie Cahill.

“I see the AGV concept perfectly suiting many of our customers, particularly those operating multi shifts over five or seven days, where payback periods will be shorter,” Mr O'Leary says of the new fork trucks.

The introduction of an AGV, programmed to carry out repetitive tasks without human intervention, frees up forklift drivers for more productive activities. With staff shortages being experienced by almost every industry at present, the Managing Director believes that AGV technology will propel Goliath into the next 15 years as THE BIG NAME in Irish packaging.

Goliath also offers a Project Management/Packaging Consultancy Service to assist in the early determination of a customer's particular packaging equipment requirements and cost reduction potential. This service, which is free of charge, has, according to Mr O’Leary “been instrumental in allowing our customers to determine payback periods before committing to a machine or integrated system purchase. When presented with real, identifiable cost-reduction scenarios, customers are in a perfect position to argue the benefits of such investment with their finance providers, whether in-house or external.”

A RELIABLE PROVIDER OF AUTOMATED SOLUTIONS

Goliath understands the automation needs of its broad customer base. From liquid filling, shrink wrapping, case-packing, labelling, palletising and pallet inverting to high speed industrial washing; via partnerships with its international suppliers, Goliath has positioned itself as a reliable provider of Automated Solutions to the Irish manufacturing industry.
